Long-term sourcing consultant for renewable energy components

We are screening a long-term sourcing consultant for a European buyer who purchases in China and Southeast Asia.

The buyer makes renewable energy equipment — solar, wind, hydro, geothermal — and hydrogen fuel-cell systems for automotive. You would source the electronics that go into that equipment.

Your work:
1. Develop and screen suppliers for renewable energy components, PCB, electronic parts, electrical assemblies and automotive components.
2. Compare and negotiate price, lead time and MOQ; deliver quotations the buyer can actually compare.
3. Follow up sampling, mass production, shipment and customs documents.
4. Visit factories on site when capacity or quality needs verifying.

Requirements:
1. Based in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macau (only citizens from these regions will be considered).
2. English good enough to hold a meeting with a European client, face to face or on video. This is the one requirement we will not compromise on — please do not bid if this is borderline.
3. Engineering background, or 3+ years of technical sourcing (5-10 years preferred).
4. Component-level experience. We are buying parts, not finished products.
5. Willing and able to travel. Buyers operations are in Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok and Jakarta. Travel to Europe will also happen.

Nice to have: French, German or Italian; background in solar, wind, hydro, storage or hydrogen; supplier coverage in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia or India.

How we work: project-based, paid per project. Not full-time, no office. First engagement is small and paid. If the work holds up, it continues. We want someone to work with for years, not to fill one job.

Before you bid: tell me about a time you got a supplier wrong — what you concluded then, what you found out later, and what you changed. Proposals that skip this will be ignored.
