Senior Linux VPS & DevOps Expert – Server Setup, Application Migration, Security & Maintenance

Project Description

We are looking for an experienced Linux VPS Administrator / DevOps Engineer to review, configure, secure, optimize, and maintain our hosting infrastructure for multiple business web applications.

Our Linux VPS has already been set up, and CI/CD pipelines have been migrated from Azure. We need an expert to review the existing configuration, ensure production readiness, and establish a secure, stable, and reliable hosting environment.

Applications & Technology Stack

We currently operate three web applications:

1. Multi-Tenant CRM Application

* ASP.NET Core / .NET backend
* Angular frontend
* Microsoft SQL Server
* Multi-tenant architecture

2. Business Web Application

* Technology stack and technical requirements will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

3. Knowledge Base Platform

* React frontend
* Node.js backend
* MongoDB database
* Currently hosted on Hostinger

Scope of Work

1. Linux VPS Configuration

* Review and optimize existing server configuration.
* Configure application hosting, Nginx, domains, and SSL certificates.
* Ensure proper resource allocation and server performance.
* Review deployment pipelines and application connectivity.

2. Security & Server Hardening

* Configure firewalls, SSH security, and access controls.
* Secure application environments and database connections.
* Implement security updates and recommended protection measures.
* Identify and address potential vulnerabilities.

3. Monitoring & Backup

* Configure server and application monitoring.
* Set up automated alerts for failures and resource issues.
* Implement automated encrypted backups.
* Test backup restoration and recovery procedures.

4. Performance & Reliability

* Optimize server and database performance.
* Review application availability and stability.
* Configure appropriate service recovery mechanisms.
* Establish reliable deployment and rollback procedures.

5. Documentation & Ongoing Support

* Provide server configuration and maintenance documentation.
* Prepare basic troubleshooting and recovery instructions.
* Recommend improvements for scalability.
* Be available for occasional maintenance and technical support.

Required Skills

* Strong Linux / Ubuntu VPS administration experience
* DevOps and CI/CD pipeline management
* Nginx, SSL, firewall, and SSH configuration
* ASP.NET Core / .NET and Angular deployment
* Node.js / React application hosting
* Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB
* Server security, monitoring, and automated backups
* Experience managing multiple production applications

Project Requirements

* This is primarily a Linux server administration and DevOps project, not an application development project.
* Our existing development team will manage application code.
* The selected freelancer must coordinate with our senior developer.
* No major production changes should be made without prior approval.
* Experience handling confidential business data is essential.

Engagement

Initial Project: Fixed-price infrastructure review, configuration, security, and optimization.

Future Work: Occasional maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support on an hourly or monthly basis.
