Job Description
I'm seeking a structural analysis of a fire rescue truck body. This includes:
- Stress analysis of loads from a winch and tie-off rings on the truck body.
- Focus specifically on the rescue equipment mounts.
- Consideration of both winch pulling loads and tie-off ring pulling loads.
Ideal skills and experience:
- Proficiency in structural engineering principles.
- Experience with stress analysis and load calculations.
- Familiarity with truck body design and mounting systems.
- Ability to provide detailed analysis reports.
EVI is a specialty vehicle manufacturer in Lake Park, FL. We are looking for help on having a structural analysis completed on one of our trucks that has a side mounted winch location down low at chassis level and tie off rings up high above mid-body. We want to know the limit the body construction can withstand when the vehicle is deployed for an emergency event.
The tubing used for the body is typically 2" x 2" x 1/8" wall thickness 6061-T6 aluminum tubing. The plates that the tow eyes are mounted in are 1/2" aluminum plates. The tow eyes are tapped into the plates and then a locknut is placed behind the tow eyes to lock them in place.
I can provide and 3D model file for reference. We are using a 10,000lb winch on the side or rear of the truck and using tie off rings to provide alternate support.
Imagine the truck being parked at the side of the road and they are trying to pull a vehicle (less than 10k lbs) up out of a ditch. The question is... what force will be subjected to the winch and tow eyes and at what rating will the body structure start to deform and or fail.
Looking forward to your expertise on this critical safety evaluation.
