Job Description
Freelance Scriptwriter for Children's Animated Series
About the Project
We are building an original children's IP featuring lovable animated characters, each representing a unique emotion or strength, such as courage, kindness, sad, curiosity, and joy.
Our vision is to create a cheerful, entertaining and emotionally meaningful animated series that children genuinely love watching, while naturally helping them develop emotional intelligence through stories and relatable character experiences.
We are looking for a creative scriptwriter who can bring these characters to life through captivating, funny, heartwarming and memorable stories.
Scope of Work
- Write scripts for animated children's videos, approximately 4–5 minutes each.
- Develop engaging storylines with strong hooks, relatable conflicts, playful adventures and satisfying endings.
- Create scene-by-scene breakdowns, character dialogues and visual action descriptions suitable for animation production.
- Develop distinctive character personalities, relationships, strengths, weaknesses and recurring traits.
- Incorporate humour, visual comedy, surprises, expressive reactions and playful interactions.
- Integrate emotional learning naturally into the story without making it preachy or overly educational.
- Collaborate on feedback and revisions while maintaining consistency across episodes.
Our Storytelling Philosophy
1. Entertainment Comes First
Every episode must be genuinely entertaining for children. Humour, curiosity, playful chaos, surprises and engaging situations should drive the story. Emotional learning should enrich the entertainment, never replace it.
2. Emotionally Rich Storytelling
Each story should create a genuine emotional experience. Characters should feel happiness, fear, frustration, sadness, excitement or uncertainty through relatable situations. We want children to connect with the characters, understand their feelings and experience their journeys.
3. Strong Character Personalities
Every character must have a distinctive personality, including strengths, weaknesses, habits, quirks and ways of responding to situations. Characters should feel alive and memorable rather than simply serving as vehicles for a moral lesson.
4. A Meaningful Payoff in Every Episode
Every episode must build towards a satisfying payoff, whether it is a funny twist, an unexpected solution, a heartwarming moment, a character's small victory or a delightful surprise. The ending should leave children feeling happy, rewarded and eager to watch the next episode.
5. Show, Don't Lecture
We do not want stories in which characters simply explain what courage, kindness or calmness means. The emotional lesson should emerge naturally from the character's actions, struggles, mistakes and decisions.
6. Engaging Story Structure and Pacing
The opening should capture attention quickly. The story should develop through meaningful events, escalating challenges and engaging character interactions, leading to a memorable climax and a satisfying resolution. Every scene should contribute to the story.
7. Visually Engaging and Animation-Friendly
The scripts should offer opportunities for expressive animation, physical comedy, visual surprises and memorable character reactions. Stories should be imaginative yet practical to produce within a 4–5 minute animation format.
8. Age-Appropriate and Rewatchable
Stories should be easy for children aged 3–8 to follow, with simple and natural dialogue, cheerful energy and memorable moments. Our ambition is to create characters and stories children want to revisit, quote and grow attached to.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in children's storytelling, animation scripts, preschool content or character-driven narratives.
- A strong understanding of storytelling, humour, emotional development and age-appropriate communication.
- The ability to balance entertainment, emotional depth and meaningful learning.
- Original thinking and the ability to develop fresh story concepts.
- Strong dialogue writing and an instinct for pacing and visual storytelling.
- Openness to feedback, collaborative development and consistent quality across episodes.
Initial Engagement
We plan to build approximately two months of scripted content before commencing animation production.
The initial engagement will involve a paid trial assignment to evaluate storytelling ability, creative fit and understanding of our vision. Successful collaboration may lead to an ongoing engagement for multiple episodes.
