Job Description
My crusher-manufacturing operation needs a straightforward way to get our technical data sheets into the system the moment they leave the shop floor. Every sheet ends up as an Excel file, and I want to remove the manual upload step entirely by capturing them with a smartphone camera and having them appear in our shared folder or database automatically.
Here is the flow I’m envisioning: a worker points a phone at the printed sheet, hits one button, and the image is processed, converted (if needed), and stored as the original Excel file in the correct destination with a time stamp. Any basic cropping or perspective correction should happen in the background so the data is clean. We work in a dusty environment, so the solution needs to tolerate imperfect lighting and occasional smudges; common OCR and image-processing libraries such as OpenCV, Tesseract, or a cloud OCR API are fine as long as the final output remains an Excel file identical to our template.
Specific deliverables
• A mobile capture interface (native app or PWA) that runs on Android phones
• Backend logic that recognises the sheet, converts or maps fields, and uploads the resulting .xlsx to our designated cloud drive or REST endpoint
• Simple dashboard/log showing successful uploads, failures, and basic error messages
• Deployment guide so our in-house IT team can maintain it
Acceptance criteria
• Each scanned sheet lands in the target folder within 30 seconds of capture, named by date and shift code
• 95 % or better field accuracy compared with manual entry when tested on 50 sample sheets
• Works on two mid-range Android devices we already own without extra hardware
If this fits your skill set, tell me which OCR or image-processing toolkit you plan to use and how you will keep the Excel formatting intact.
