WordPress News Website Build

I’m launching “The Australian Public Ledger,” a fully-fledged online news publication, and I need a skilled developer to turn the concept into a polished WordPress site.

Platform & Theme
WordPress is my chosen CMS. I haven’t committed to a theme yet, so I’ll rely on your advice: suggest and implement a modern news or magazine theme (premium or custom-built child theme) that is lightweight, responsive, and easy to extend.

Core Functionality
The site must feel like a professional newsroom. Beyond the usual article and category structure, I specifically need robust search, an engaging comment section, and a newsletter subscription flow that can connect to Mailchimp, Sendinblue, or similar services. Clean code, fast load times, and SEO-friendly markup are essential from day one.

Deliverables
• Deploy WordPress on my hosting, configure security and performance basics.
• Recommend and install an appropriate theme, then tailor branding, colours, and typography to match “The Australian Public Ledger.”
• Implement:
– Site-wide search with clear filtering options
– Native or plugin-based comments (with moderation tools enabled)
– Newsletter opt-in (popup or inline) with double-opt-in compliance
• Set up core plugins only (SEO, caching, backups) to keep bloat low.
• Provide a brief handover guide so editorial staff can publish confidently.

If you have a portfolio of news, magazine, or high-traffic WordPress sites, I’d love to see it alongside your proposal.
