Job Description

Duties

(a) To lead the curriculum development of the Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE) Key Learning Area (KLA), particularly Economics, Ethics and Religious Studies, Geography, Citizenship, Economics and Society (Secondary 1-3) and Religious Education (Secondary 1-3), as Head of the PSHE Section;
(b) To plan, organise and conduct teacher development programmes in support of the implementation of the above curricula;
(c) To plan and supervise the development of resource materials to support the implementation of the above curricula;
(d) To plan, organise and conduct student learning activities, research and development, and evaluation projects related to PSHE;
(e) To advise and collaborate with relevant sections in the Curriculum Development Institute, Divisions in the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, schools, other government departments and organisations concerned on curricular matters related to the PSHE KLA, including serving on departmental / interdepartmental / non-government committees and/or working groups related to PSHE;
(f) To coordinate and supervise the review of textbooks and resource materials for curriculum within the PSHE KLA;
(g) To execute and monitor the administration of curriculum / subject grants related to PSHE; and
(h) To undertake any other duties assigned.

Entry Requirements

(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree majoring in Economics / Geography / Religious Studies / Liberal Studies / Social Studies, or equivalent [See Note (ii)];
(b) A certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent [see Note (ii)];
(c) Met the language proficiency requirement of 'Level 2' result in either the Use of Chinese (UC) paper or the Use of English (UE) paper in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent; 'Level 2' in both the UC and the UE papers in the CRE, or equivalent preferred [See Note (iii)];
(d) A pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [see Note (v)];
(e) At least 12 years' relevant post-qualification [as specified in (a) and (b)] experience in teaching and/or curriculum development of Economics / Ethics and Religious Studies / Geography / Citizenship, Economics and Society (or previously named as Life and Society) (Secondary 1-3) / Religious Education (Secondary 1-3) / Senior Secondary Citizenship and Social Development [see Note (iv)];
(f) Possess sound knowledge in the area of Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE) Key Learning Area (KLA) as well as the local education system;
(g) Possess a higher degree (e.g. a second / higher degree) related to Economics / Geography / Religious Studies / Liberal Studies / Curriculum Development preferred [see Note (ii)]; and
(h) Be responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic; have a fine character and integrity; be committed to serve in the education field; and be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 2.5 years.

Benefits

(a) 18 days annual leave and full pay sickness allowance whereas rest days, statutory holidays(or substituted holidays), maternity leave/paternity leave, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.
(b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
(c) Other fringe benefits include medical and dental benefits and, where appropriate, housing benefits.
