The School of Optometry is one of five academic units in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The School is the sole provider of an Honours Undergraduate Programme in Optometry, Master of Science in Vision Science and Innovation, Doctor of Optometry and Doctor of Health Sciences (Optometry) Programme in Hong Kong. The five-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry is a registrable qualification with the Hong Kong Government. Our research foci are myopia and ageing eye. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(c) conduct interdisciplinary research in ocular therapeutics and advanced optometric technologies to drive commercialisation;

(d) contribute to departmental services; and

(e) perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a PhD in Optometry and Vision Science, Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Pharmacy, Data Science or related disciplines;

(b) preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;

(c) demonstrate an interdisciplinary background and a proven track record integrating medicine and engineering, or substantial relevant research experience;

(d) demonstrate the potential to secure competitive research grants and establish internationally recognised research programmes;

(e) possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams comprising clinicians, engineers and industrial partners; and

(f) be proficient in English for teaching and academic communication.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
