The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is one of the five academic departments in the Faculty of Engineering, and it offers a full spectrum of Biomedical Engineering programmes, from BSc, MSc to PhD. It is the first group to offer a Biomedical Engineering and Sports Technology-related undergraduate programme in Hong Kong and has made significant achievements in Biomedical Engineering education, innovative research, and technology transfer. Currently, BME has six thematic research areas, including (1) Biomedical Imaging, Sensing, AI and Wearable Technology, (2) Brain-Machine Interface and Neural Engineering, (3) Molecular/Cellular Engineering and Biomaterials, (4) Precision Diagnostics and Therapy, (5) Prosthetics-Orthotics, Smart Ageing and Rehabilitation Engineering, and (6) Sports Science and Technology. It aims to conduct cutting-edge research in these areas and nurture future leaders in prosthetics and orthotics, clinical engineering, medical instrumentation and sensors, and biological engineering by imparting interdisciplinary knowledge, innovative ideas, critical thinking and practical skills. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) conduct high-impact research as the primary duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as the General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b) publish high-quality research papers in top-tier conferences and journals;

(c) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level as assigned by the Unit;

(d) supervise student projects, dissertation and theses;

(e) engage in industrial and scholarly research/consultancy activities;

(f) undertake academic and departmental administrative duties; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a PhD degree in related disciplines;

(b) preferably at least two years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of appointment;

(c) strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research;

(d) good publication records;

(e) good networking ability;

(f) effective classroom teaching skills and student mentoring abilities; and

(g) high proficiency in written and spoken English.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
