Job Description

Duties

The Temporary Prosecution Officer (Part-time) is mainly deployed on: (a) conducting court proceedings at preliminary hearings; (b) prosecuting Charge Cases relating to legislation enforced by this department; (c) inputting data onto computer workstation (PMS) for issue of summonses; (d) preparing brief facts of case for submission to court for hearing; (e) assisting SFO(P)s to make applications to magistrate’s courts for forfeiture of seized endangered species and other articles through miscellaneous proceedings; (f) assisting SFO(P)s in trial hearing including preparing and conveyance of case bundles; (g) preparing statistical reports in respect of the progress of work of this Section; (h) assisting SFO(P)s to prepare translated cautioned statements and any documentary evidence, which are intended to be tendered in court, for certification by the Judiciary Translation/Certification Office; (i) arranging the attendance of prosecution witnesses and the production of exhibits; (j) keeping records and up-to-date information of all cases that have been tried or are awaiting court hearings; and (k) performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should: (a) be a Form 5 graduate, or equivalent; (b) have at least 5 years of experience relating to prosecution, court proceedings and laying of summonses; (c) have experience in handling Charge Cases especially for Cap.586, Cap.476, Cap.171, Cap.169 & Cap.139; and (d) have experience in operating computer system, namely Prosecution Management System (PMS).

[Preference will be given to candidates with a valid Hong Kong Driving License (class 1 and 2).]

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on 1 year non-civil service contract terms.

(G) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
